What three words would you use to describe yourself?
A little whacky.
How would you describe your day job to a child?
I care for and protect people, the planet, and our business, and I prevent bad things from happening.
Why did you choose to be part of the Vector Logistics’ team?
I wanted to be able to meaningfully contribute to a business whose values are aligned with my own.
What excites you about this role?
It’s never boring and is personally fulfilling. We constantly deal with changes within Vector, as well as legislative, regulatory, and customer requirements. We ensure compliance while keeping our people safe and healthy and caring for the planet. I also have the privilege of positively influencing people - it’s like having a superpower!
How would you describe a high-performance organisation?
An organisation that puts its people first, operates responsibly and manages change effectively.
How do you keep yourself/your team motivated?
Before we talk about work, we take time to connect as people. This reminds us that we are human, connected, and one team made up of diverse individuals.
Do you have a mentor/coach?
Yes, our SHERQ Executive… but don’t tell him as he doesn’t know this yet.
Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
I’d be myself because if I were someone else, even for a day, I’d be missing out on all the blessings, joys, learnings and stuff that was there just for me which that day had to offer; and I could never get it back. Life’s too short to be someone else anyway.
If you were the CEO for a day, what would you change or introduce?
I would introduce a hybrid work model where possible. This could reduce overhead costs, lower environmental impact, ease commuting stress, and improve work-life balance.
On a lighter note…
What is your most memorable facepalm (embarrassing) moment?
I once slipped and fell flat on my behind while walking into a site to conduct an audit. I picked myself up and dusted myself off and prayed that no one saw me. And before you ask, no it did not result in an IOD.
When was the last time you laughed so hard?
All the time but most recently on a WhatsApp video call with my kids while I was travelling. They are so funny and bring real joy to my life.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate, chocolate and chocolate. Oh, and did I say chocolate?
What is one thing people do not know about you?
A long time ago, I studied towards becoming a professional ballerina.
If you could invite one famous person (dead or alive) to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would repeatedly invite Elon Musk to dinner (if he was paying) so that he could keep me abreast on what is really happening in this 5th industrial revolution that is AI as it is a scary, exciting and inevitable phenomenon that we and many generations to come will need to understand and keep up with in order to ensure that we use AI responsibly and ethically.
